- Rebirth is an idea of continuity of life.
With metaphysical residue as the fuel to continue life, a suitable form is taken and the next physical representation of life comes into existence. This event is marked as “Rebirth” only because we don't see the continuity nor do we have the memory of the past. All the same, we don’t recognize the constant companion within. Hence every birth feels new and the starting point. It feels like the only "Birth".
In every birth the body and mind become the accessible part of the self that is constantly engaged in worldly affairs and sustenance spinning the wheel of action and reaction and going in circles of "rebirth".
When higher order beings descend here in the human body and they have memory of their journey, to them life is a summation of things that have happened in different times of their existence. For immortals, only the final dissolution will bring the end of a cycle of life. Thus the idea of rebirth is for those who are putting distinct markers in the flow of life. Like defining the chapters in a book. You can find the end of a chapter and the beginning of another in a book. Why do you need a second chapter? If the story does not conclude in one chapter, the script forces the beginning of another chapter until the climax has arrived and an ending is reached. There is great angst in the writer to bring the proper beginning and ending to his work, similar is the angst of the source to gather back all its flows.
Metaphysical residue is like the script, it is a field that contains motivational seeds that bring about the next set of actions in the sequence of cause and effect. Simply put, it is the remaining reason or cause for life ( the story) to continue. Depending on the tendency of this residue and the modification of matter, a suitable physical representation begins to continue life as a collection of actions. Through conscious actions and the facilitation of the true self, when there is lesser and lesser residue left in the process of life, there comes a point when the causes of existence begin to weaken, and there comes another point where there are no more causes left at all. This is the point of final expansion ( the climax) of the true self without the drag of any metaphysical residue. This is the point where the cycles of birth, death and rebirth stop and the lifeforce only carries its true nature in its currents. It is the cessation of this cycle of birth and death which is referred as liberation or Moksha. Bringing a seeker to this point of liberation is the aim of spiritual knowledge transmitted through a Guru ( The editor of the script capable of bringing out the destined climax).
